Casa Los Frailes takes the name as the Jesuit Friars used to live in the Estate during two centuries (XVII to XVIII). Since then, about 250 years ago, in 1771 Casa Los Frailes estate belongs the Velázquez family, managing the winery today in the 13th generation.
Casa Los Frailes pioneered organic farming, being certified already in the year 2000.
At the foothills of the Dolomite mountain, the Monastrell finds the most stony soil, where the roots only deep 60 cms until touching the Mother Rock (dolomia-calcarous). The wine is elaborated like the Jesuits did, limiting to minimum the intervention at the winery and using the same concrete deposits and amphorae as the monks used a long time ago.
The wine has pronounced aromas of cloves, rose petals, and a hint of soft turmeric. The palate is velvety and juicy, ripe black cherry and an intense blackcurrant that is sumptuous. A nice dose of dusty tannin brings lovely parity.
